A true feat of artistry, this piece was painstakingly hand finished, to create each individual mark of the florentine finish
A rare and beautiful 1964 Patek Philippe reference 3426 in solid 18k yellow gold with a stunning and original florentine finish. Complete with original Patek inner and outer boxes and extract from the archives papers from Patek, this piece has a lot going for it.
The Calatrava has come define the very essence of dress watches. Since first conception in 1932, the Calatrava has been created in many various references and designs. The reference 3426 is up there with some of the most beautiful. They are rarely seen and virtually never in original Florentine finish or with the matching 18k gold bracelet, as most typically came with the leather band. Of those that are found, few if any are comparable in condition, this piece is stunning. The finish of this piece really is a testament to the skill and calibre of the Patek artisan watchmakers. The florentine pattern on both the dial and bracelet was painstakingly crafted by hand using minuscule chisels. This is a true feat of skill and artistry, especially when you think that each etched mark has been made across individual, separate links on the bracelet, and yet each matches up seamlessly and is millimetre perfect throughout. The ultra slim design of the 3426, unbelievable for a watch made in 1964, serves as another example of the incredible engineering skill of Patek Philippe.
Mechanically sound and keeping good time, this piece has been well looked after and is in incredible condition. It remains completely unbuffed and polished, retaining all of it's beautiful, original lines and finish. Naturally being a vintage piece and in solid 18k, there will be some minor signs of wear, however we think you'll be hard pressed to find another in this condition, with only very minor scratching (such as to the case back as is to be expected) the watch is immaculate for a piece older than half a century and we truly believe you won't find a better example anywhere.
