This rare full set Patek Philippe ref.5180/1G-010 is simply incredible and is available now complete with the original box and papers.
To find an example such as this, in such excellent condition and as a full set, is a real rarity and this piece would sit well in any collection.
This piece is a real exhibition of the prowess in engineering and artistry of Patek Philippe. Chase engraving is heralded in real glory here, with each bridge and the rotor elegantly hand engraved over a period of 130 hours, quite astonishing really! The artist engravers work within tolerances of fractions of a millimetre to create the beautiful patterns by hand, which parade this skeletonised ultra thin calibre just perfectly. That monumental 130 hours figure applies only to the engraving, that is not accounting for the other hand decorating skills such as polishing of the chamfers and sinks etc. Add to that the feat of ‘skeletonising’ the ultra thin automatic winding rotor and it is clear to see why the 5180 is such a great showcase of handcraft skill, haute watchmaking and Patek Philippe itself.
The movement is sandwiched between two large crystals giving an unimpeded view to the great artistry on display. On the wrist the reference sits very nicely with its slim profile and large span, whilst the beautifully constructed bracelet feels like fabric on the wrist.
The watch is a complete showstopper with a wonderfully refined elegance, you know when you wear some watches and it just feels special, this is one that optimises that feeling. The ultra slim design and bracelet give it a versatility that makes you feel like wearing it everyday; who doesn’t want each day to feel special! Due to the high level of hand skill required to make these watches too, few were made, they are rare and you are unlikely to see another friend or collector wearing one, yet all will want to know what you are wearing.
