This Patek Philippe ref.2431, one of less than half a dozen known second series examples represents a great opportunity. Being one of the larger time-only only pieces of the era, the reference represents excellent comparative value with unparalleled rarity, compared with other large calatrava. This very rare example, is preserved in very impressive condition, with its original engraved enamel dial in beautiful condition and sharp case with both deep crisp hallmarks and all its facets retained, making it one of the very best examples; a piece worthy of any top collection.
The design revolves around a large sculptural case with oversized ‘flame’ lugs. This iconic Emile Vichet case design has a real fluidity too, giving the impression that the lugs were twisted from molten gold. They seamlessly extend into the case band, resulting in a very impactful but harmonious case design. One of the finest examples of the reference, this piece has a very strong case with two strong hallmarks, all edges, facets and very thick original proportions retained. The stern Frères engraved enamel dial is a delight, with the original enamel in strong condition.
Aside the great design and size of the 2431, and the excellent condition of this example; the 2431 is also highly sought after due to its great rarity, with very few examples of the reference known. This particular example is made even rarer since it is a 2nd series example featuring the calibre 12-400, for which only a small handful are known as mentioned prior.
Having remained with the same collector for many decades, this wonderful example has been very well preserved.
It also comes complete with an extract from the archives document from Patek Philippe confirming all details of the piece.
