This very rare Rolex ref.6611B is available now, in full set condition with its original box, guarantee, Bulletin chronometer cert, various instruction booklets and even a service docket from 1959 from Rolex New York. It is a truly impressive set of papers for a watch of such age. This rare early Day-Date is a ref.6611B, only the second model in the lineage of the Day-Date family, superseding the 651.
The 6611 and 6611B notably featured for the first time the now famous, "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" in replacement of the previous "OCC" on dials prior, due to the newly improved calibre 1055 featuring a new balance, 25 jewels and 18,000 oscillations. The reference was produced for only a short period, being replaced by 1959/60 with the 1800 series, making ref.6611 and 6611B particularly rare and sort after.
This lovely example features a good case, with crisp hallmark to the back. The case back features a lovely personal engraving for the original owner and overall the case has been well preserved with good proportions and lines retained. The silver sunburst dial has aged with a lovely even tropical patina giving it a gold hue that pairs perfectly with the case, hands and markers. It has a light scratch from a watchmakers tools historically, running from the centre hands hole towards the 6 position, but it is not particularly noticeable to the eye and overall the dial presents nicely, with an attractive warm patina. The movement is in good condition mechanically and aesthetically for the age and is functioning well. The timeless design of the 6611B looks just as relevant now as it did when first released, lets not forget this watch is over 65 years old! This great, full set example presents well, in nice age related condition and with bundles of wrist appeal and personality.
