 About This Watch

___________________________________________________________________________

With such a limited production run, very few 6202s were produced, making the standard black dial iteration a very rare and desirable piece in it’s own right. Of those that were produced, white dial examples represent the very rarest of the reference, making this original white waffle dial piece, a seriously rare find.

The case is in excellent condition, with it's original lines nicely retained, having not been heavily buffed or polished out. Age related wear as is desirable and to be expected. The inside caseback is stamped IV.53 confirming production in the 4th quarter of 1953. The case number is 950*** confirming the production year and interestingly this serial is very close to the other white dial 6202 we have listed. The underside lug is engraved '18' as 6202s should be, demonstrating how well preserved the case is, as this is often polished out in other examples being a shallow engraving.

This piece features very nice gold, faceted hour markers and dauphine hands on the original white waffle dial, with etched diamond 'waffle' finish with a beautiful even creamy custard patina, marked 'swiss' at the 6 position as is correct. Well serviced and keeping good time, this piece with it's 36mm case sits well on the modern wrist.

Those astute amongst you may have noticed that we have two 6202 white dial turnographs within our collection currently. The reference is very rare, to find one with a white dial is extraordinary, two find two with both dial types (waffle and honeycomb) as we have here is truly remarkable. If you are interested in both, please don't hesitate to get in contact and we can create a deal.

About the Turnograph Waffle White Dial Model

___________________________________________________________________________

A seriously important references in Rolex history, the 6202 was only produced for a very limited time after it’s release in 1953, in a very small run of few pieces. The reference is famously considered the ‘pre submariner’, being the brands first watch to feature the all important rotating bezel that became the foundation for the submariner line; as well as pulling many other design queues for the Submariners from the Turnograph. Naturally it lead to the continuing turnograph and thunderbird lines, but it also gave birth to the all important Milgauss, with the reference 6541 taking some clear inspiration from this all important reference and the design of the rotating bezel playing a major role in the 6542 GMT. Already considered a very rare and desirable reference, with the stratospheric rise of the early Submariners and Milgauss prices in the past few years, we believe this reference to be one to watch in the near future.
